Pakistan and UAE Forge a Powerful Alliance for a Greener Future

UAE to Join Pakistan in Renewable Energy Ventures

Pakistan and UAE have recognized Pakistan’s potential in alternative energy production and signed an MoU at an impressive ceremony attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sultan Al Jaber, Minister for Industries and Technologies in UAE.

This MoU, signed by Power Division Secretary Rashid Mahmood Langrial of Pakistan’s Power Division and UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure Undersecretary Sharif al Olama from UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure Undersecretary Sharif al Olama of UAE, opens up opportunities for renewable energy projects to be developed by UAE in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Ghani highlighted its significance as an opportunity for bilateral cooperation while outlining his goal to generate 10,000 megawatts of solar energy production by Pakistan by 2025.

Attracted by Pakistan’s potential and alternative energy policies, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed eagerness to provide UAE firms with detailed presentations. He stressed his dedication to quickly turning an MoU into an agreement and taking advantage of UAE expertise in order to facilitate real progress within this sector.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his thanks and appreciation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for inviting Pakistan to participate in COP28, an important climate conference taking place later this year. In particular, he thanked UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the invaluable assistance provided during Pakistan’s challenging negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.

Al Jaber, UAE Energy Minister, highlighted strong relations and partnership between both nations. He underscored their mutual commitment to cooperation, deepening ties, and increased understanding regarding climate change issues, while hosting COP28; further noting their intention to establish a Loss and Damage Fund as one component.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recently laid the foundation stones for three transformative projects totalling Rs 24 billion, all designed to link Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Torghar district and Buner district via 25km inter-district road, 1km Karakar Tunnel and an Indus River Reinforced Cement Concrete bridge (RCC bridge). These infrastructure initiatives not only aim at improving connectivity but also promote tourism and trade throughout Hazara and Malakand divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz met with Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui – sister of detained doctor Aafia Siddiqui who has been held for more than 10 years by US on terror-related charges – reaffirming the government’s pledge to advocate on her behalf and work toward her early release. This second meeting in as many months underscores its dedication and resolve.

Pakistan is making strides toward sustainable development while strengthening international relationships through UAE assistance with renewable energy initiatives and government investment in critical infrastructure projects. With support from UAE in renewable energy initiatives and its government’s focus on important infrastructure projects, Pakistan is well on its way toward sustainable development and forging stronger international ties.
